Court remands trader for defiling 8-year-old girl in Kaduna
A 26-year-old trader, Gabriel Matthews has been remanded in prison by order of the Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kaduna for defiling an eight-year-old girl.
The suspect is being charged for luring the minor to an uncompleted building when she was coming back from an errand and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Making depositions on the case, the prosecutor, Inspector Leo Chidi disclosed that the offence was committed on January 29, around 9.00 P.M. at Ungwan Television Community in Kaduna.
He also said that Matthew was caught red-handed in the act by a passerby who heard the cries of the victim and rushed to see what was amiss.
Chidi added that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The Magistrate presiding over the case, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel refused to hear any plea from the suspect and ordered that he be remanded in prison, pending the advice of the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The case was adjourned till February 21 for further hearing.
