"You are common criminals," Lagos Police CP tells bribe-collecting officers
Lagos State police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, has described bribe-demanding police officers as “common criminals.”
Owoseni launched the attack at corrupt police officers on live television, Monday morning.
“They all collect their salaries as at when due,” Owoseni told hosts of Channels TV’s breakfast show “This Morning.”
He was responding to a question from one of the hosts on reported cases of police officers who extort money from Nigerians.
“If they demand bribe they have reduced themselves to a very low level,” he said.
“They are no more than common criminals,” Owoseni said.
While many Nigerians will give Owoseni a pat on the back for the bold statement, many more will hope the police do more to sanction corrupt officers.
Even many more will hope the government pay police more and improve their living conditions.
