Commercial bus driver rapes stranded 78-year-old woman in Lagos

Jelili Lawal, a commercial bus driver in Lagos has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping a stranded 78-year-old woman in Oloti community within Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, Lagos.

The 41-year-old driver is reported to have offered to help the woman find her way back home on January 1 when she was asking for direction to her place in Ketu from Maryland, Ikeja.

The elderly woman who accepted the offer by entering Jelili’s bus did not know that he had ulterior motives. But halfway into the trip, Jelili allegedly veered off the road into Oloti in Adeniyi Jones where he raped her amid screams.

When the passersby noticed the commotion, they immediately alerted the police who caught Jelili in the act.

“Policemen, who were informed were directed to the location where the cry emanated from,” the police chief, Imohimi Edgal said while parading the suspect at the Police command headquarters in Ikeja.

“They caught the suspect in the act and rescued the old woman, who was already bleeding from her private part as a result of the assault on her dignity,” Edgal revealed.
