Coal mine collapses, kills 11 in north west China
January 7, 2016

Eleven bodies have been retrieved, Thursday, from the debris of a collapsed coal mine in northwestern Shaanxi province.
The mine collapsed on Wednesday trapping the eleven miners, but rescue operations could not immediately commence due to high carbon monoxide levels and poor visibility, China’s Xinhua News Agency reports.
38 other persons were lucky to escape from the privately owned Liujiamao Coal Mine.
Investigations into the cause of the collapse are still ongoing.
Accidents like this are not uncommon in China which is the world’s largest coal producer.
Although government says fatalities have declined in recent years, some rights group argue that casualty figures are being underreported..
