Chinese National, Suspected Terror Collaborators Arrested in Borno – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a Chinese national suspected of aiding terrorist activities during counter-terrorism operations in Borno state.

The Chinese citizen, who claimed to be a miner, was apprehended in Kukawa and Ngala local government areas during what the military described as “well-coordinated” operations targeting logistics suppliers and collaborators of insurgent groups.

Markus Kangye, director of defence media operations, made this known while addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday.

“The Chinese national has been detained and he is undergoing interrogation,” Kangye was quoted as saying by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“When the interrogation is completed, we will be able to furnish the public with the details of why he was there in the first place, how he was arrested, whether he was the only one there, or he had accomplices.

“All this will be unfolded after a thorough investigation has been carried out.”

Kangye noted that increased military presence in the northeast has led to the surrender of several Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, including adult males, females, and children, between June 6 and June 11.

He assured the public of the military’s continued commitment to securing lives and property.

Troops have recently intensified counter-terrorism operations across various theatres in the country, in a sustained effort to dismantle terror networks and restore peace to affected communities.
