China’s President Xi Holds Talks with Morocco’s Crown Prince in Casablanca
Chinese President Xi Jinping made a brief visit to Morocco on Thursday, November 22, strengthening the growing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. Upon his arrival in Casablanca, Xi was warmly greeted by Morocco’s Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, reflecting the deep friendship and collaboration between the peoples of China and Morocco.

The warm welcome was also extended by Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, who, along with the Crown Prince, met Xi at the airport. According to China’s state broadcaster CCTV, the leaders engaged in a cordial conversation, emphasizing their nations’ shared commitment to mutual cooperation.
Xi’s visit came on the heels of his participation in the G20 Summit in Brazil, underscoring China’s active role in global affairs and its focus on strengthening international relationships. Morocco, with its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, has become an increasingly important partner for China.
In recent years, China has significantly boosted its investments in Morocco, particularly in infrastructure and the rail sector. The North African country’s free trade agreements with the EU and the U.S., along with its established automotive industry, make it an attractive destination for Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers looking to expand into new markets.
A major milestone in this growing economic collaboration was the announcement in June that Chinese EV battery manufacturer Gotion High Tech would establish Africa’s first gigafactory in Morocco, a project worth $1.3 billion. This move highlights the strategic importance of Morocco as a key player in China’s global supply chain for electric vehicle production.
