Chibok girls not pregnant, got no VVF…and so what?

A Chibok parent weeps for her missing girl. At least 17 of those parents have died probably due to the trauma of waiting for a daughter who may never return home.

Most of the teenage schoolgirls Boko Haram abducted from Chibok, in Borno State, over a year ago are now carrying pregnancies belonging to their terrorist abductors.

Some of them even have VVF.

Reports over the weekend said a runaway Chibok abductee “revealed” that “intel” to the Nigerian military.

What’s VVF?

A vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) occurs when there has been an injury to the wall of the private part. It is a tract or hole between the female bladder and the private part. It allows the involuntary passage of urine from the bladder through the the private part. It is a disease that affects only women. It makes its victims smell. It can be caused by complications in childbirth, and by rape.

“We wish to once again remind journalists to seek clarifications on any issue relating to military operations and other national sensitive matters before going to press,” Nigeria’s defence headquarters, the DHQ, said in a statement debunking the reports.

“We will not give in to misleading reports which has no true source.

“The search for abducted Chibok school girls and the rescue of other Nigerians in hostage has never relapsed as could be attested to in recent times where hundreds of women and children were rescued by the military through its coordinated operations.”

Buhari and Ezekwesili's BBOG met in Abuja recently.
BBOG leader Obiageli Ezekwesili (right) says the group will not rest until President Muhammdu Buhari (left) rescues the schoolgirls alive.

But this is not the first time reports about the Chibok girls being sexually exploited would be aired.

Five months after the schoolgirls were kidnapped, reports had it that one of them was released by the terrorists…she was found to be four months pregnant.

“Susan Ishaya is actually one of our daughters abducted from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok,” chairman of Chibok community in Abuja, Tsamdo Hosea Abana, told the media in September 2014.

“She was found in Mubi where her abductors dumped her and she was later taken to Yola. It has been proved that the girl is four months pregnant, and she is psychological and physically traumatised,” he said.

That was barely five months after the abduction which took place on April 14, 2014.

There are fears that the Chibok girls are being radicalised and used as suicide bombs.
There are fears the Chibok girls are not only being forced into slave marriages, but are also being radicalised and used as suicide bombers.

Experts say that if Boko Haram terrorists are as crazy as they seem, they may be abusing the schoolgirls on a daily basis.

When one ponders that Boko Haram terrorists have been crazy enough to send eight-year-old girls on suicide bombing errands, the possibility of them raping teenage girls seem a lesser feat…and that makes the heart shudder.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo echoed the same fears two months after the girls were kidnapped.

“I believe that some of them will never return,” Obasanjo said in June 2014.

“We will still be hearing about them many years from now, some will give birth to children of the Boko Haram members, but if they cannot take care of them in the forest, they may release them.”

It is, perhaps, this fear that led 17 Chibok parents into seemingly trauma-induced deaths.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to rescue the girls alive. The Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group said it will not rest till the government fulfill that promise.

Nigeria may need to relax its abortion law for the sake of the Chibok girls...should they be rescued alive, and with baby bumps.

Apparently, the Nigerian government is yet to make good on the pledge.

Experts say Nigeria needs to prepare for the unexpected concerning the Chibok girls who must given top notch rehabilitation should they be rescued alive.

At this stage, it may matter less whether or not the girls have VVF, or carry terrorists pregnancies.

What matters now is to rescue the Chibok girls alive, every other thing should follow…and that should include legislation permitting those who want to abort their pregnancies, should they be carrying any, do so.
