Chelsea survives late scare to beat Newcastle

Chelsea recorded a narrow 2-1 win against fierce rivals Newcastle in their English Premier League clash.

Goals from Nicolas Jackson and talisman, Cole Palmer either side of an Isak equalizer gave the Blues the win at Stamford Bridge.

From the off, Chelsea looked hungry for the win and they struck 4 minutes later through Palmer but the goal was disallowed after a VAR check

The Blues dominated the game completely and soon got the lead their performance deserved in the 18th minute when Pedro Neto teed up Nicolas Jackson for an easy tap-in.

It did look like the goal conceded sparked life in Newcastle and they soon rallied back in the 32nd minute to get their leveller through hitman, Alexander Isak.

The firsthalf did not produce much in terms of goal mouth action and the game went into the break one goal apiece.

The second half began just the same as the first, Chelsea pushing and probing to regain their lead.

2 minutes after the restart and Cole Palmer got the lead for Chelsea via a sweet left-foot strike.

Next, Madueke shot for a goal but Nick Pope in goal for Newcastle United saved well.

The next few minutes witnessed a flurry of fouls and yellow cards.

Newcastle would have wondered why they didn’t get their equalizer when Isak, in the 76th minute, got the better of Fofana in a 50-50 duel, dribbled past Sanchez, failed to shoot past a retreating Colwill, only for Caicedo to nick the ball off him for a corner kick.

The Blues managed to control the tempo relatively well until the late minutes of the game when Newcastle pushed again, but defender, Reece James, saved the Blues’ blushes by nodding clear for another corner-kick to Newcastle.

The game ended, 2-1 to Chelsea, a win that sees them climb to 4th on the table.
