Charly Boy, group mount pressure on police, demand immediate release of detained journalist
Charly boy and some protesters under the aegis of Our Mumu Don Do movement have stormed police headquarter in Abuja to demand the immediate release of Samuel Ogundipe.
Ogundipe was arrested and detained by the police over his refusal to reveal the source of a news report on the conclusion of IGP Ibrahim Idris’ investigation into the National Assembly blockade by DSS operatives about two weeks ago.
There has been public outrage over Ogundipe’s continued detention.
The protesting group insisted that until the detained reporter is released, they wouldn’t leave the police premises.
They also reportedly barricaded the Shehu Shagari Way, forcing motorists to ply alternative routes.
One of the members of the group, Ralph Adebayo described the IG as “ignorant”, and said “he has been transmitting confusion since he became the police boss, stumbling from one controversy to another.”
Also, a Presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, chided Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris for pressurizing Ogundipe to disclose his source, as it is against journalism ethics..
