Canada woman, brother allegedly hire Nigerian soldiers to assault Lagos tenant
Some Nigerian soldiers have gone into hiding after apparently finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.
The unnamed soldiers were allegedly hired by one Lekan Shobola who happened to be caretaker to an apartment over which Nigerian author Marleth Adeiza was allegedly beaten up.
The house is located at 25, Maye Street, off Montgomery Road, Yaba, Lagos.
The building is said to belong to Canada-based woman Sola-Otegbade who is also Shobola’s sister. Some say it belonged to someone else.

“I paid Shobola money for rent in October last year. He told me he was caretaker of this apartment,” popular Mathematics author Marleth Adeiza told Newsroom on Monday.
“My rent was due so I wanted to pay N150,000 for another year. But I told Shobola and Sola-Otegbade I would delay payment till they provided me toilet and bathroom as promised. I’ve been having my bath outside.
“That was when Shobola started threatening me. On Sunday, March 26, he invaded my apartment in the company of some thugs who vowed to forcefully evict me. But they mellowed after I involved the police.

“At Sabo Police Station, we reached a deal that I’d leave the apartment two months from then. I needed the time to find another place.
“To my surprise, Shobola came with soldiers this Sunday again. I just returned from church and was eating. I had barely swallowed three bits when he arrived with his military enforcers.
“The soldiers wanted to question me but I told them to show me identity cards. ‘Are you questioning a soldier?’ one shouted at me. That was when the beating began,” Adeiza said.
“I still managed to convince them to follow me to the police station where we reached the deal. They agreed. But on our way there, the soldiers jumped off the vehicle and fled. I have decided to drag Shobola and his sister to court,” he said.

When Newsroom reached out to Shobola to hear his side of the story, he seemed to hand the phone to another person who ranted at our correspondent.
“Don’t you have any other news you want to carry? Why this news? Are you jobless?” the ranter asked, and ended the phone conversation.

We also called Canada-based Sola-Otegbade but she didn’t pick the phone. We’ve sent her a text to which she was yet to reply as at the time we published this story.
