"Buhari, your "unserious" body language on Boko Haram makes us depressed," PDP tells Nigerian president
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says President Muhammadu Buhari is not focussed on overcoming Boko Haram.
If he were, Buhari would have invested more in Nigeria’s military like his predecessor Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP did, the party claims.
The PDP says save for the strides of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Boko Haram terrorists would have overran Nigeria.
The PDP said Jonathan procured all the weapons now at the disposal of Buhari who rose to power on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a party that pledged to end the terrorism the PDP could not curtail.
During a press conference the PDP held in Abuja on Monday, party spokesperson Olisah Metuh said members of his party were depressed over Buhari’s seeming unwillingness to crush Boko Haram.
“Whereas, we have in the past stated our support for efforts towards the fight against insurgency, we wish to register our deep concern regarding the clear show of unseriousness on the part of the present administration in tackling this problem and bringing succor to affected persons,” Metuh said during the presser.
“It is depressing to note that apart from the efforts by the Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP administration in training, military hardware and fortifying the country’s military before leaving office in May, no tangible investment has been made by the present administration in that direction due to its apparent lack of focus.
“The fallout is the resurgence of terrorists who were, before the May 29th handover date, already pushed to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest.
“But for the resilience of our military, who have effectively applied the equipment and training sourced under the watch of the PDP government, insurgents would have taken greater hold of our nation by now.”
