Buhari may reshuffle his cabinet in May – Femi Adesina

President Muhammadu Buhari may reshuffle his cabinet when he begins his second term as Nigeria’s leader in May, spokesperson Femi Adesina has said.

Adesina said Buhari will reevaluate the ministerial appointments he made four years ago and decide on those he still wants to keep.

Buhari had taken at least six months to unveil his current crop of ministers but Adesina who spoke on Arise TV Thursday morning, said that would not be so this time around.

“One thing about governance is that the first mandate was for four years. That mandate lapses on May 29, and shortly before May 29, the president is likely going to officially dissolve his government. That is the way it is usually done,” Adesina said.

“He says thank you to everybody that he has called to work with him and then he dissolves that government officially.

“Then when he is inaugurated for a second time, he now reconstitute a government; he appoints his personal aides, he forms his cabinet, he appoints other people to fill other positions,” he added.

Nigerians had implored Buhari, after he was declared winner of the 2019 presidential election on Wednesday, to consider fielding the best hands for the job and do away with ministers such as Solomon Dalung of the sports sector, Adamu Adamu of the education sector, and Adebayo Shittu of the communications sector.
