Bridegroom who punched two of wife’s bridesmaids gets one-year jail term

Thankfully, the wedding reception had ended before 27-year-old John Paul Campbell dealt blows on two of his wifes’ bridesmaids.

The bridegroom “saw red and snapped” during a drunken row in a car park at the end of his wedding day, Dailymail reported.

Rachel Walsh, 23, took the first hit while Samantha Dewar, 26, who tried to remonstrate with him got the second and more grievous of the two.

Dewar suffered a fractured cheek bone and needed to insert a metal plate as a result of that single punch.

Defending himself, Campbell said he had had a lot to drink and had also taken some cocaine.

He added that there was an argument in the car park about how to get home during which he had been bitten by someone and he “flipped”.

“This was his wedding night and it is particularly embarrassing and difficult for him, not just for his predicament but also for the unintended injury. He did not realize how serious it was,” his lawyer, David Morton said.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm on Dewar and was sentenced to one year in prison.
