BREAKING: Rusticated UNILAG student arrested for protesting inside convocation hall
Olorunfemi Adeyeye, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) student suspended for criticising the school hierarchy, is being detained by the police.
UNILAG commenced its annual convocation today. The three-day ceremony ends Thursday.
Adeyeye, a source told NewsroomNG, was arrested after entering the convocation hall to protest his suspension.
A journalist was also arrested. The journalist, Dotun, is brother to Segun Olawoye who works for Sahara Reporters. Segun graduates from UNILAG today.
“This is my convocation day but am live at the ‘Alpha Base’ as they call the security unit on the UNILAG campus,” Segun Olawoye wrote.
“A situation is about to come up. My younger brother, Dotun, has been arrested and beaten by the UNILAG Camus for the offense, I understand, of coming into the convocation hall with camera.
“The situation is now being escalated to the Police and the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Owoseni Fatai has just ordered that he be brought to the State Command along with Femi Adeyeye, who also said he came into the hall to protest his rustication.
“I also understand that the CP’s interest is borne out of the presence of Omoyele Sowore (Sahara Reporters publisher) at my convocation. This is a way to graduate from UNILAG.
“I’ll update you as we progress,” he wrote.
