Breaking: Lagos industrialist, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi dies at 72
Former Minister of National Planning and renowned Lagos industrialist, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi has died today, November 16, aged 72.
Chief Gbadamosi had, in April, fallen ill after he reportedly suffered a stroke attack and was subsequently flown to the United States for treatment. He however died in Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday after his year-long battle with illness.
Steve Ayorinde, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, broke the news of Chief Gbadamosi’s demise via his Twitter on Wednesday.
“LASG mourns the passing of a leading industrialist, art patron, former minister and Co-Chairman of Lagos@50, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, 72,” he shared.

Ayorinde revealed the businessman’s remains will be lowered to mother earth by 2pm on Thursday. He described Chief Gbadamosi as a true Lagosian who will be “remembered for being a nationalist and art aficionado.”

During Chief Gbadamosi’s illustrious years as a public servant, he served as the Chairman of Bank of Industry, Chairman of Petroleum Products Prices Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, and as a one-time Director of National Sports Lottery Plc.
He was named co-chairman of Lagos @50 Planning Committee along with Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode last year.
The revered economist also served in various capacities at Ragolis Water Ltd, AIICO Pension Managers, Lucky Fibres Nig. Plc and several other companies.
