Borno: Councillor, others arrested for allegedly stealing bags of rice belonging to IDPs

A Councillor, along with four others, has been arrested by EFCC for allegedly selling bags of rice meant for Internally Displaced Persons in Borno.

The bags, totalling 300, were reportedly donated to the IDPs by Danish Refugee Council, an NGO.

EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture in Mafa Local Government in the state was part of the suspects apprehended following an intelligence report.

Some of the suspects had confessed that the rice was sold to two traders in the area at the rate of N8,500 per bag.

Three other suspects were said to be at large.
