Bolt restricts South Africans and Nigerians from prank ride orders
Electronic-hailing transport company, Bolt, has placed restrictions on both Nigerian and South African users involved in the recent fake ride requests of its transport services.
The company announced this in a statement released on social media platform, X, on Thursday.
The issue began a few days back when some mischievous South Africans began placing prank orders on Bolt drivers in Nigeria.
In retaliation, Nigerians began doing the same to Bolt’s South African drivers, placing requests for rides and sending the drivers to the wrong locations.
The trend saturated social media space, with many finding the pranks hilarious.
The ride-hailing platform has now come out to acknowledge the existence of the pranks which has left its customers stranded in various parts of Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Bolt is aware of the recent fake ride requests between individuals in Nigeria and South Africa. We’ve swiftly implemented measures to resolve the issue and have restricted inter-country ride requests,” the company stated on X.
Furthermore, in a bid to curb the menace, the Country Manager of Bolt Nigeria, Yahaya Muhammed, disclosed that the company have now “blocked all intercountry ride requests.”
“We understand the impact this situation has had on our driver-partners in Nigeria and South Africa. We are committed to ensuring a safe, reliable, and secure experience for all members of our community,” Muhammed commented.
