Boko Haram raze Nigerian military base in failed bid to capture Adamawa town
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attempted capturing Gulak town of Adamawa State but failed, reports say.
In a daunting operation which took place on Sunday night, the terrorists succeeded in setting fire to a military base in the area.
According to reports, their plan was to overpower the security forces and then capture the town.
The terrorists stormed the area in four vehicles and headed straight to the military base, residents and officials told Xinhua on Tuesday.
They took away guns and burned some artillery belonging to Nigeria’s security forces, the Chinese news outlet said it gathered.
But the terrorists were neither able to overpower the security setup nor capture Gulak, officials say. State police spokesperson said they are beefing up security in the area.
Boko Haram, now the deadliest terrorist group in the world, has since 2009 killed some 13,000 people. The terrorists also kidnapped hundreds of Nigerians about 200 of whom are the Chibok schoolgirls the government has so far failed to rescue.
President Muhammadu Buhari told the Nigerian military they have till December 2015 to route the terrorists..
