Bobrisky Transferred to Abuja for EFCC Interrogation Amid Bribery Allegations

Controversial social media figure and crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was re-arrested late Thursday night and is set to face serious allegations of bribery and corruption. An official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that Bobrisky will be flown to Abuja today for interrogation.

The drama unfolded at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, where Bobrisky was removed from an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight while attempting to leave for London. Following his detention, the popular figure took to Instagram to share his experience, claiming he sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officers. “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured,” he wrote, alleging that the EFCC was behind his detention.

Sources indicate that his arrest stems from repeated failures to respond to the EFCC’s invitations regarding allegations he made against the commission. Recently, a controversial voice note surfaced, reportedly featuring Bobrisky claiming he bribed EFCC officers with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges against him. Although the EFCC has denied these claims, they have initiated an internal investigation into the matter.

EFCC Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren

During a press briefing on Thursday, October 31, EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, suggested that Bobrisky could face new charges if his allegations are proven false. “One can be charged for giving false information to the EFCC, especially when making serious allegations against the commission,” Uwajaren stated.

A high-ranking source within the EFCC revealed, “We have arrested him in Lagos and he will be transported to Abuja. He accused us of bribery and corruption; we invited him several times, but he did not show up. He who alleges must be ready to prove. Those allegations are too weighty to let slide.”

Furthermore, the source pointed out that Bobrisky’s failure to appear before the National Assembly regarding the matter added to the urgency of the situation. “We are left with no other choice than to pick him up so that he can substantiate his claims.”
