BIZARRE: Chinese woman, 20, “unknowingly” delivers baby in toilet, proceeds to hospital for antenatal
A Chinese woman nearly lost her baby after she “unknowingly” delivered the infant while on the toilet of a public bathroom.
The woman, according to Chinese media, said she wasn’t aware her baby had dropped in the toilet.
She proceeded to the hospital for her antenatal appointment, accompanied by her family after using the toilet. Doctors at the hospital told her that an ultra-sound scan indicated signs of delivery.
Police say the unnamed woman, believed to be in her 20s and inexperienced in childbirth, thought “she was only having stomachache while going to use the toilet.”
The baby boy was found by a petrol station worker who heard his cry from inside the cesspit on Wednesday, February 28.
A team of firefighters successfully rescued the baby by breaking the rectangular cover of the sewage with hammers and an abrasive saw.
The rescue operation was caught on camera.
He was still with the umbilical cord and placenta. The identity of the mother was eventually discovered through CCTV footage and she was traced to the hospital.
“Luckily the baby was floating in the pit, there was no potential risk to his life at the moment,” a police officer told Beijing News.
Local police are investigating into the case further.
