In a Twitter statement on Monday, Alakija said she and her husband Modupe Alakija would be making the donation through their company FAMFA Oil Limited.

Alakija’s donation is coming nine days after she was trolled on social media over her Twitter post on COVID-19. She had taken to Twitter on Saturday March 21, 2020 to share screenshots of a three-page document which she tagged as “Prophetic declaration and Prayer against COVID-19”.

The documents contained biblical texts and 18 prayer points against the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria and the world.

Another wrote: “Jack Ma is donating medical equipment to Africa, ma you’re here sharing prayer points as if we all don’t know how to recite psalm 91 and 24. Faith without works is dead, what exactly are you doing to help Nigerians? Give back to the society during this trying times ma.”
