Biden to host Trump in White house Wednesday
In light of a pledge made by incumbent US president Joe Biden to ensure a peaceful transition of power, Trump is expected to be hosted by Biden at the White house on Wednesday.
The Republican candidate who will return to the White House after he garnered 291 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the presidency, while his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, polled 222 electoral votes.
According to the White House, the meeting between the two leaders, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. local time (1600 GMT) in the Oval Office, comes as Biden prepares to step down from office in January 2025.
The Republican in line to be inaugurated and assume office on Monday, 20 January 2025 will firstly meet with the outgoing president, Biden to discuss essential issues that will aid a seamless transition and address any immediate challenges ahead of January’s formal transfer of power.
