Benue: Victims of herdsmen attack take cooking pots, mats to House of Assembly in protest
Hundreds of victims of herdsmen attack in Benue State have besieged the State’s House of Assembly, in a bid to coerce lawmakers to pass the open grazing prohibition bill.
The bill, which will help check herdsmen in their unscrupulous activities, had been presented 10 months ago but the lawmakers haven’t given it a consideration.
Channels TV reports that the peaceful protesters, under the aegis of Movement Against Fulani Occupation, had issued a threat days ago to lay siege at the lawmakers’ complex until their plight was considered.
They have reportedly stormed the complex with their mats, cooking pots and other items while chanting songs and making their demand.
Herdsmen have attacked several communities in the past year, killing hundreds and displacing many others.
