Stephen Nyitse has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for sitting on king’s throne.

Stephen Nyitse, the 30-year-old man who sat on a king’s throne unauthorised, has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.

Nyitse had, on Saturday, positioned himself on the Tor Tiv’s throne shortly before the new king was installed during a coronation ceremony in Gboko, Benue state.

Nyitse had reportedly said his move was to cleanse the throne for the incoming king.

His action was deemed an abomination and he was said to have been banished from the community.

He was subsequently arrested and arraigned on Thursday before a Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Justice P. S Chaha.

The convict had reportedly told the police during interrogation that he was under a spell.

The judge described Nyitse’s action as a disgrace to the Tiv nation for which he deserved no mercy.

He handed down a 4-year jail term to the accused.
