“Why I beat my grandma to stupor over N20,000 ceremony cash,” 17-year-old allegedly opens up to police

Residents of a community in Abaraka, Delta State, said they saw Felix Obus unleash heartbreaking violence on his grandmother.

The 17-year-old did not stop beating the old woman until she passed out, reports say.

He then tried to flee but was apprehended by the police, reports say.

violence against womenAlice Onome, 65, had allegedly accused Obus of stealing her N20,000 – an amount eyewitnesses said she was planning to use to organize one of her other grandchildren’s naming ceremony.

Onome reportedly told Obus she would report him to the village council for appropriate disciplinary action. After hearing the allegations, Obus allegedly became furious with his grandma but did nothing.

The teenager, who had reportedly dropped out of secondary school, stormed out of the house and went to consume some alcohol somewhere.

He later returned home, had some argument with Onome, and started beating her, reports say.

“As he was beating her, the woman fell down and started foaming in the mouth before she slipped into unconsciousness,” reports quoted an eyewitness.

“She was then taken to a nearby hospital where she was resuscitated.”

Obus was, however, arrested and allegedly told the police he beat his grandma under the influence of alcohol.
