Atalanta coach, Gasperini behind Lookman’s electric form – Peseiro
Current African player of the year, Ademola Lookman who plys his trade in Italy with Atalanta after a series of failed stints with Everton and Leipzig suddenly discovered terrific form after signing for Atalanta and managed by Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Nigerian international was instrumental in his club’s success last season where he bagged 11 goals and 7 assists in serie A and led them to European glory with a sublime hat-trick against an in-form Bayer Leverkusen side in the Europa League final.
Following his accomplishments and personal accolade, former Nigerian coach Jose Peseiro has attributed his turn around in form to good management by his club coach.
According to him, Gasperini should take credit for his upturn in form after giving the former Leipzig player freedom of expression on the pitch.
“I think giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to show his quality, both in terms of decision-making and execution,” Peseiro told Sportitalia.” Of course, the club and Gasperini have provided Lookman with the environment to grow as a player in all aspects”, he noted
Peseiro also applauded Lookman for his exceptional performances for club and country.
