No fewer than 21 persons have been killed after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck central Italy, Wednesday morning.
Many others are believed to be trapped under rubble.
Many of the victims were in the Village of Pescara del Tronto which was levelled to the ground, BBC reports.
Much of the town of Amatrice was also reduced to rubble.
Needless to say, the death toll could rise.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has described the quake as “a moment of pain” and said his thoughts were with the victims.
“At the moment we need to employ all our forces to save human lives, treat the injured and ensure the best conditions for the people displaced,” he said in a statement.
