Asisat Oshoala: Here’s what you should know about Nigerian football star who just turned 21

Nigeria’s female football sensation Asisat Oshoala turned 21 on Friday.
The talented footballer was born on October 9, 1994 in Ikorodu, Lagos to parents with a strict Islamic background.

She started her football career at a young age to the disapproval of her parents but she was hell bent on becoming a soccer star.
Her professional career began with FC Robo in 2009 which made her get a call up to the junior female national side.
She played for Robo for four years and signed for Rivers Angels in 2013.
By the time Oshoala was leaving Robo FC, she had become a national hero following her skillful display with the age grade side of the female Nigerian teams.
In 2014, she emerged the Most Valuable Player and highest goal scorer at the U-20 World Cup in Canada which Nigeria lost to Germany.

In January, Oshoala got signed by top English side, Liverpool Ladies only days after she won big at the CAF awards winning Africa’s Women’s Player of the year and Youth Player of the year.
In May, Asisat also emerged the pioneer BBC Women’s footballer of the year beating Spain’s Veronica Boquete and Nadine Kessler of Germany to second and third places respectively.
She has been nicknamed “Superzee” due to her incredible skills.
Oshoala is also a Member of the Order of Niger, a title given to her in 2014 by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
