Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a prominent news anchor and producer with Arise Television, has tragically lost her life during an armed robbery at her home in the Katampe area of Abuja.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025. The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

In an official statement released by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi on behalf of Arise TV’s management, the network expressed deep sorrow over the death of Maduagwu, affectionately known by colleagues and viewers as “Sommie.”

Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu was not only a respected journalist but also a trained lawyer. She joined Arise News as a vibrant on-air presence, known for her professionalism, warmth, and ability to connect with audiences across the country.

“Sommie, 29, was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers,” the statement read. “Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer who was a professional and supportive colleague and a friend to many.”

Arise TV extended its deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and loved ones during this painful time, describing her loss as a devastating blow to both the organization and the wider media community.

“Though her voice is now silent, Sommie’s spirit, passion, and legacy will live on in our collective memory,” the statement continued. “We remain in shock and call for a swift and thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

Authorities have yet to release additional details about the incident, but the case remains under active investigation.
