Another Building Collapses in Lagos Island, Multiple Injured

Several people sustained injuries after a three-storey building collapsed on Thursday morning along Adeniji Adele Road in Lagos Island.

The incident occurred at 2/4 Asesi Lane, also known as Sasi Lane, in the Sasi Palace area. At least four occupants were rescued from the rubble and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, confirmed the incident in a post via Facebook.

“A three-storey building has collapsed on Lagos Island,” Omotoso said.
“It is not yet clear why 2/4, Asesi Lane, Sasi Lane, (SASI Palace), Adeniji Adele Road went down. Four persons have been rescued from the rubble. They have been taken to hospital.”

Emergency responders from several agencies are at the scene, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police.

Omotoso added that rescue efforts are ongoing, with officials working to determine if more individuals remain trapped beneath the debris.

The latest collapse adds to a troubling pattern in Lagos, where building failures have become increasingly frequent. In the past four months alone, at least four other buildings have collapsed in the state, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities in areas such as Ikorodu, Mushin, Ojodu-Berger, and Lekki.
