Ambode fires three commissioners as Buhari snubs wife’s advise on cabinet shake-up

President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t seem bothered by calls to rejig an allegedly corrupt and apparently ineffective cabinet.

Even when his wife Aisha urged him to do so, Buhari ordered the First Lady to keep quiet and return the kitchen and “the other room” where she “belongs”.

One would think Buhari needed a cabinet shakeup more than “over-performing” Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. And that would be a wrong assumption.

Since assuming office in May 2015, Ambode has proved he’s more than able to get the job done. Yet, unlike Buhari with whom many Nigerians don’t seem pleased, the governor who enjoys considerable approval from Lagosians just reshuffled his cabinet.

Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello, made the announcement on Wednesday.

No reason was stated for the sudden change.

He said Ambode directed the Special Adviser, Arts and Culture to take over as the Acting Commissioner for Ministry of Tourism and Culture; Special Adviser on Transportation will take over as Acting Commissioner for Transportation; while the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance takes over as the Acting Commissioner for Finance pending the appointment of new commissioners in the respective ministries.
