Air Peace accuses ‘Nigerian Lawmaker’ of disrupting flight operations at Lagos Airport

One of Nigeria’s leading airlines, Air Peace, has accused a “prominent senator” of disrupting flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) Terminal 1, following a viral video that surfaced online on Wednesday.

The video, widely circulated on social media, shows former Edo State Governor and current senator, Adams Oshiomhole, engaging in a heated confrontation with an airport official before locking the terminal gate, identified as the Zulu Terminal.

Although Air Peace did not explicitly name the politician in its official statement, it provided details that match the senator’s actions in the viral footage. The airline stated that the individual arrived at the terminal at approximately 6:10 a.m. for Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart Lagos for Abuja at 6:30 a.m.

According to Air Peace, the lawmaker became aggressive after being informed that boarding had closed and the flight had departed on time. The airline alleged that he physically assaulted a staff member and took matters into his own hands by barricading the terminal’s entrance, preventing other passengers from accessing the facility.

“In line with our standard on-time departure policy, the boarding process had closed, and the flight departed as scheduled,” the airline said. “Upon being informed of the missed flight, the politician resorted to violence… sealing the entry gate and manning the access point.”

The statement continued, “This unacceptable behaviour caused significant disruption to ongoing operations and affected numerous travellers scheduled for various flights.”

To mitigate the impact of the incident, Air Peace said it activated an emergency operational plan, rerouting affected passengers through an alternate terminal.

The airline condemned the lawmaker’s actions, calling them “unbecoming and disruptive,” and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for violence or aggression against staff and passengers.

“No individual, no matter how influential, is above these values,” the statement concluded, affirming the airline’s commitment to discipline, integrity, and adherence to safety protocols.

As of the time of this report, Senator Oshiomhole has not issued a public statement addressing the allegations.
