Adeboye’s advice to his son continues to stir controversy
A recent marriage advice tweeted by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has been receiving mixed reactions from the public.
The message which charged married couples to cut off intimate relations with the opposite sex to avoid the temptation that the devil uses to ruin marriages, also contained a story of his advice to his married son.
Pastor Adeboye tweeted:
“One of my sons once told me that he was always excited to resume in the office every Monday because he would get to see his secretary again. I told him to fire her immediately. Nothing and no one is worth your marriage.”
The tweet attracted mixed opinions. Many condemned the decision arguing that the lady in question was rendered jobless for another person’s fault and that Pastor Adeboye should have cautioned his son to focus on his marriage instead.
Others wondered why Pastor Adeboye thought sacking the secretary was a good idea.
“Pastor, what part of employment law is this? Will this hold in an employment tribunal? In a place where there are laws ‘your son’ will be paying out loads… Why should an innocent woman lose their job cos [sic] ‘your son’ couldn’t control himself?” One Twitter user, Wale Gates responded.
“Let’s flip the script. Let ‘s assume that the person Pastor Adeboye’s son is attracted to is the boss. Would the advice be to resign? Or does it just concern people that work for you?” Another one tweeted.
“If he sacks the lady, and another one comes the crush will continue. The issue is with the man not the crushee involved. Even the Bible reference says it’s better to cut off your eyes if it causes you to sin. It’s a personal thing, shouldn’t affect the poor lady,” someone else said.
Some of his followers supported the advice by pointing out that most people usually suggest that it is better to stay away from people that will lead them into temptation.
“Pastor Adeboye, Crush that Crush is for married people, right? That means the son & secretary are not single, right? That means for your MARRIAGE to work, no room for David & Bathsheba drama, right? Take the lessons & stop this follow the crowd mentality,” one of his followers tweeted.
“If Pastor Adeboye’s son had a sexual relationship with his secretary and it leaked, we’d still come and rant with ‘he could’ve avoided it’,” another one said.
Till this moment, the Twitter community is still debating about who exactly is to be blamed – the secretary, her boss or Pastor Adeboye himself.
