The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has assured that death threats made by one Amaka Patience Sunnberger in Canada have been reported to the relevant authorities there.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa gave this assurance on Thurday via a social media post.

Recall that, recently, social media went into a frenzy when a video surfaced of Sunnberger threating to poison and kill members of the Yoruba and Edo ethnic communities resident in Canada.

In reaction to this, NiDCOM petitioned Honourable Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Canada, regarding the matter.

The petition to the Mayor was contained in a letter dated August 28, 2024.

The Commission pointed out that Amaka is a disability support worker in Brampton.

“As long as I am Chair @nidcom_gov and diaspora issues are reported to us we will deal with it. As I speak Nigerians in Canada have taken the matter up with the relevant authorities,” Dabiri-Erewa stated in her post.

The Chairman has called for an inquest into Amaka’s inciteful comments.

Neusroom has learnt that the police in Canada had invited Amaka Patience Sunnberger for questioning.

Dabiri-Erewa held that someone who holds such a delicate position could pose significant danger to the general public and must be brought to book.

NiDCOM’s petition comes after the the Nigerian House of Representatives had submitted a formal petition of its own to the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, His Excellency James Christoff, in regards to the matter.

The petition by the lower house, dated August 28, 2024, was filed by Mr. Biodun Omoleye, Chairman of the Nigeria-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group, and Mr. Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, Chairman of the House Committee on Diaspora Matters.

Amaka’s comments has since caused an uproar on social media, with members of all affected tribes clashing with each other in heated manner.
