79-year-old woman “raped in a cemetery”
The pensioner was visiting her sister’s grave in Ibbenbueren, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany when she was allegedly attacked on Sunday.
A refugee from Eritrea who is suspected to have carried out the attack has been arrested.
The 40-year-old has been charged with rape and placed in police custody. He has lived in Germany since 2013.
Local media reports say a witness called the police after hearing the woman crying for help around 6:00 a.m.
The victim was released from hospital on Tuesday after having received medical treatment.
The alleged rapist had been staying in a hostel for asylum seekers in nearby Horstel.
He faces up to 15 years in prison..
