7 Nigerians tell Neusroom their experience of the #EndSARS protest of October 2020
We asked Nigerians what they remember about the October 2020 EndSARS protest against police brutality that reverberated across the world. Here’s what they told us:
Taiwo
Yes, I participated. it was a horrible experience. There was a time we were protesting along Abekuta road, and the police started shooting. We ran because of their bullet. Their intention was to disperse us. This is very, very bad. They treat us the way they like.
Daniel
Yes, I participated in the protests. But at the end of the day, the soldiers came and push us away and they were throwing us tear gas. It was a peaceful protest before the hoodlums took advantage, this is because government did not respond on time.
Enoch
To be honest, I did not participate. I was watching it on the news.
Patrick
Personally, I didn’t participate in the protest but I supported them. I was praying for them. And I’m happy that even if all the problems are not solved, at least the protest served notice to those in power that there is a limit to impunity.
Alpha
I didn’t participate physically because I relocated to Abuja at that time. I was completely new to the area. With everything I was hearing that was happening in Lagos and stuff, I really wish I could have, but being in a new environment, I didn’t want to put myself in line where if anything happens I wouldn’t know where to run to. I supported it online and participated in one way or the other.
Tobi
I was not part of the protest. I was offshore for work at that time. But I supported with my little finances and moral support online.
Ajara
I was in school when the protest happened, so I didn’t participate.
