6 kidnapped journalists in Anambra regain freedom
The Nigeria Police has rescued six sports journalists initially kidnapped in the Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed this on Thursday.
Ikenga revealed that the rescue mission was a result of the combined efforts of several security agencies.
A total of 7 journalists were kidnapped on Wednesday while trying to cover the African Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria vs Libya scheduled for Friday, October 11, 2024.
They were intercepted on their way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State while travelling through the Isseke-Orlu Road.
The Police say efforts are underway to locate and rescue the remaining kidnapped Journalist.
“Joint security forces have rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo,” Ikenga revealed.
