4 months after securing admission, 200L ATBU student stabbed to death in Bauchi

There are widespread reports of police extortion in Nigeria.

A 200 Level student of the Abubakan Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi has been stabbed to death, reports say.

Identified as Yusuf Musa, the Mechanical Production Engineering Student was reportedly killed, Wednesday night, by a 500L student identified simply as Dauda with whom he reportedly had a fight about three weeks earlier.

Musa who gained admission to the university about four months earlier via Direct Entry was preparing for his last paper in the first semester examinations when the incident occurred.

A source close to the victim said Dauda came with five people to beat Musa on Monday during which the victim lost a tooth.

And they came back on Wednesday to beat him again, but neighbours intervened and they left.

“It was after that that we heard that Yusuf was hit with a big stick and then stabbed with a knife. All of the two camps ran away leaving him in the pool of his blood.”

ATBU’s spokesperson, Zailani Bappah confirmed the incident but declined commenting on it saying it was with the police.

“Yes I am aware of the incident and they are out students. But I must tell you that this did not happen on either the Yelwa Campus nor the Gubi Campus. It didn’t happen on the school facility,” he said.

“This is not our case but that of the Police. I can only refer you to the Police. The Management is not officially aware of it, we are only on-lookers. We are also waiting for them (Police) to give us details of their investigations. We cannot say anything for now, go and meet the PPRO,” the University’s Spokesman said.
