21 Killed In #EndBadGovernance Protest–Amnesty International

Nigerian security agencies have been accused of killing at least 21 persons in the recent nationwide protest against hunger, economic woes and negative effects of fuel subsidy removal.

International rights group, Amnesty International, made this disclosure on Wedensday through it Nigeria director, Isa Sanusi.

“Their duty is to restore order and make sure that protesters are protected,” Sanusi warned the Police.

According to the group, 7 more deaths recorded in Kano state, and 1 in Azare, in northeastern Bauchi state, raised the death toll from 13 to staggering 21 fatalities.

In response to the allegations, the Nigerian Police has denied any acts of extrajudicial killings and insist that they have no hand in the deaths of protesters.

The Police in Kano have, however, said they will conduct a thorough investigation on the matter.

On the backdrop of events, the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has addressed the nation and assured citizens that the government was taken steps to lessen the hardship on Nigerians.

The protests took an ugly turn in the Northern part of the country with cases of vadalism recorded and alleged shooting of protesters by the Police.

Following the President’s broadcast, the protests appear to have fazed off a bit as regular commercial activities look set to return nationwide.
