Two Women Arrested in Kwara for Selling Drug-laced Cupcakes to Students
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made notable arrests in a series of operations aimed at tackling drug abuse and trafficking. The latest arrests include two individuals in Kwara state, linked to a disturbing case of drug-infused cupcakes being sold to students.
On Sunday, December 29, 2024, NDLEA operatives swooped in on an apartment along Tanke-University of Ilorin Road, Oke Odo, in Ilorin, Kwara State. There, they apprehended Khadijat Abdulraheem, a 24-year-old recent graduate, and Ayomide Morakinyo, a 20-year-old University of Ilorin student. The suspects are accused of manufacturing and distributing cupcakes laced with drugs to fellow students. During a search of their residence, operatives discovered 42 pieces of the drug-infused treats.

In a related operation, the NDLEA’s Tincan Command arrested an ex-convict, Sodade Sunday Eniola, who had been previously sentenced in June 2024 for drug trafficking. After serving a prison term, Eniola was released after paying a fine of N750,000, but his criminal activities did not stop. In December 2024, he was apprehended again by officers of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command for his involvement in passport racketeering.
Following this, a series of operations at Lagos Airport’s export shed led to the interception of over 50 passports concealed in shoe soles and food items, with destinations including Canada and Russia. The NDLEA arrested four individuals involved in the racket, including Eniola, Ayinde Saheed Awwal, Salaudeen Afeez Ayode, and Sheriff Adebayo Bamigbade. The suspects, along with the seized passports, were transferred to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution.
In another major development, NDLEA operatives, in collaboration with Nigerian Customs and other security agencies, intercepted two containers at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex in Onne, Rivers State, on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. The containers were found to contain a staggering 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup, which is commonly abused as a cough syrup drug.
Also on the same day, in Kano, NDLEA agents raided a local dealer’s home in the Mafarki, Dan Dishe area of Dala Local Government. The raid resulted in the seizure of 149,090 pills of tramadol and Exol-5 from 45-year-old Ismail Muhammad.
Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, emphasized that the agency’s operations are part of its ongoing commitment to curbing drug trafficking and abuse across the nation.
