19-year-old remanded in Ikoyi prison for stealing church offering
A 19-year-old suspect, Stephen John was on Tuesday, November 29 remanded in Ikoyi prison for stealing offering money from a Catholic Church at Elegbata, Apongbon area of Lagos.
John and two others who are still at large allegedly broke into the church at about 11p.m on November 16 and made away with N31,000 before a security guard Catholic churchgot hold of him.
He was arraigned before Mrs. F.O. Ikobayo at Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos where he pleaded “guilty” to a three-count charge of conspiracy, breaking, entry and stealing read out to him.

“He was caught by a security guard, while the others escaped,” the prosecuting counsel, Inspector Nurudeen Thomas told the court, adding that adding that the offences contravened sections 285, 305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Ikobayo ordered that John be remanded in prison custody, before adjourning fact-checking and sentencing of the culprit to December 2.
