10 Nigerian states that have been attacked by Fulani herdsmen

There have been series of attacks carried out by Fulani herdsmen in various states across the country. The notorious herdsmen’s attacks and panic establishment within Nigerian states have over time raised concerns among Nigerians at large.

In recent times, family members have lost their loved ones as well as properties; farming-investments have also been destroyed as a result of the herdsmen’s attacks.

Below are the states that have so far been attacked by the Fulani herdsmen;

Ogun 

Residents of 13 communities in the state cried out after suspected Fulani herdsmen killed 24 and injured scores of their people in the early week of the new year.

The communities also lamented that the suspected herdsmen have destroyed farm crops worth millions of naira in several attacks in between 2000 and December 2017.

The affected victims which included husband and wife, hailed from 13 communities of Asa, Agbon–Ojodu, Igbonla, Korole, Ibeku, Moro, Koomi, Ibore, Igan – Alade, Kodera, Owode – Ketu, Adesina Village and Orisade, all in Ketu Local Council Development  Area (LCDA) of the state.

Just a few days ago, a farmer on his farmland at Afon, in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state was reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen.

Oyo

The notorious herdsmen unleashed a mayhem in some communities within the state.

It was gathered that Farmers in Lagun, Iyana Offa, Offa, Atagba, Lapata and their surrounding communities in Lagelu Local Council Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have been attacked by a group of Fulani armed men.

According to eyewitnesses, five farms were visited in the attack.

Osun 

Suspected Fulani herdsmen working in Osu, headquarters of Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State have reportedly killed two persons and injured four others in the town during a clash between them and some natives.

Trouble started in the town when some herdsmen allegedly robbed along Ile-Ife/Ilesa road in Osu, carting away valuables. It was learnt that the search among the herdsmen led to a fracas between some Fulanis and the residents which later resulted in the killing of the natives. It was reliably gathered that the herdsmen in the town later attacked some residents and thereby killing two persons.

Ekiti

Just a few days ago, suspected herdsmen attacked Orin community in Ekiti. They attacked the communities in the early hours of the day, killing a pregnant woman.

Kwara 

About two years ago, at least, seven persons were reportedly killed in attacks by Fulani mercenaries. Oba Busari Olarewaju, the traditional ruler and other stakeholders of Eruku community of the state during a town hall meeting lamented that over seven members of the community. Also, months ago, an attack by Fulani herdsmen on Yakira, a community in Baruten local government area of the state, has left four people dead and many others injured.

The recent killings in the state have since raised an unavoidable alarm. With the death of 73 people who lost their lives in the bloody clash, the herdsmen incessant attacks have become a subject of discuss among Nigerians at large.

Jos

Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the Kwata Zawan area of Jos South local government in Plateau state, killing over 12 people, all of them women and children. More so, a deadly clash recently broke out between natives and Fulani at Farandong village near Dasho in Daffo district of Bokkos Local Government Areas of the state.

Adamawa

Over a hundred people were displaced from their home after the rampaging Fulani herdsmen attacked and razed down two densely populated settlements – Suwa and Burukutu – in Lamurde local government area of the state. It was gathered that the attack was carried out by well-armed herdsmen.

The herdsmen, according to witnesses, numbered over 500 and are believed to be on a revenge mission, as they suddenly descended on the communities and begun to attack residents.

Imo

Men suspected to be the deadly herdsmen invaded farmlands in Amakohia-Ubi Autonomous Community in the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. The attack which caused panic in the state led to the destruction of crops and other valuable items estimated at millions of Naira.

Enugu

Two villagers were kidnapped by the notorious herdsmen in the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State. The attack comes five months after a previous one in Ukpabi, Nimbo, in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state. The raid by the herdsmen left over 15 people including a National Youth Service Corps member and elderly men, dead.
