10 days after wedding, teenage wife dies in Lagos mudslide
Faizan Muritala, 16, is no more. She was killed in a mudslide that led to the collapse of four buildings in Kuata shanti community located at Amara Olu street, Mechanic village, Ikeja, Lagos.
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday morning.
Faizan, 16, got married 10 days before the tragedy. She lived with her husband Muhammed, and his mother Hawa, inside a makeshift structure located at the swampy area.

The couple migrated to Lagos from Borno State. Mohammed lived in Gwoza before Boko Haram destroyed his home. He married Faizan and they made Kuata shanti community their dwelling place.
Faizan was trapped in the “house” after heavy rains triggered a mudslide on Tuesday.
“All we heard was a loud bang at about 9:30 am and before rescue team arrived, she had died,” a resident said.
The government said the shanti is illegal. Structures erected in the area, about 40 of them, were demolished on Tuesday. Residents say they have nowhere else to go.
