In Pictures: Zamfara Hit by Third Bomb Explosion in One Week
Zamfara State has witnessed another series of bomb blasts, marking the third such incident within a week. Explosions were reported along the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads, causing significant destruction and further heightening fears among residents in the violence-prone region.
The latest incidents were reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, which stated that the blasts caused severe damage. However, details regarding casualties remain unclear as of the time of this report.

The explosions occurred just three days after a deadly blast on Wednesday along the Gusau-Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area, where a bomb planted under a bridge killed eight commuters in a Golf car and injured three others. The police have attributed the Wednesday attack to the Lakurawa terrorist group, which reportedly migrated from Niger Republic and has been linked to earlier attacks in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
“These Lakurawa members, when they were dislodged by the Army in Sokoto and Kebbi, the rest of them that survived the military onslaught were trying to find new enclaves,” said Muhammad Dalijan, Zamfara Police Commissioner, during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme.

Dalijan stressed that local bandits in Zamfara typically lack the expertise to create bombs, differentiating the Lakurawa group from other armed criminals in the region.
“The bandits here in Zamfara don’t use bombs because they don’t know how to make it; they don’t know how to improvise explosive devices,” he explained.
The Commissioner also confirmed that security forces had received intelligence about the Lakurawa group’s presence near the blast site before the attack but were unable to prevent the explosion.

“We are 100% sure that Lakurawa are the ones that planted the bomb,” Dalijan added.
The increasing frequency of bomb attacks has intensified calls for heightened security measures in Zamfara State.
