“You’ve Made Your Biggest Mistake,” Netanyahu Warns Iran After Missile Strike on Israel

"We Will Win," Netanyahu Declares as Israel Reflects One Year After Hamas Attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stark warning to Iran following a missile attack that targeted Israeli territory late Tuesday.

“Iran made a big mistake tonight and will pay for it. Whoever attacks us, we attack them,” Netanyahu declared as he convened an emergency security meeting with his cabinet.

The airstrike, which Tehran claims was in retaliation for the recent deaths of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, involved over 200 missiles launched from Iran, including hypersonic weapons.

With Israel’s continued military action in Gaza, tensions in the Middle East have been growing, especially following high-profile targeted operations against Hezbollah, an anti-Israeli group backed by Iran.

Between September 18 and 19, pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah exploded, killing more than 29 people and injuring several thousand. Just before Iran’s attack, Israel began what it described as “limited, localized, and targeted” raids against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

While most of Tuesday’s missiles were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, some landed in central and southern Israel. Israeli medics reported that two people were lightly injured by shrapnel, while a Palestinian man in the West Bank was killed when debris from a missile fell on him in Jericho.

The Iranian government, through its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stated that the attack was “concluded unless the Israeli regime decides to invite further retaliation.”

However, Israel, along with its ally, the United States, seems to be planning a retaliatory strike on Iran.

“Make no mistake, the United States is fully, fully, fully supportive of Israel,” U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday.

Iran’s air attack marks the second direct military confrontation between Israel and Iran this year. In April, Iran responded to an Israeli airstrike on its consulate in Damascus with a missile and drone attack.
