“You are our greatest assets” -Tinubu tells Nigerian youth
President Bola Tinubu delivered a message of hope and empowerment to Nigerian youth during his Independence Day address on the 1st of October 2025, declaring them “the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country.”
The president highlighted several youth-focused initiatives launched by his administration, led by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which has disbursed N99.5 billion in educational loans to approximately 510,000 students across 36 states and the FCT, covering 228 higher institutions. An additional N44.7 billion has been provided as upkeep allowances.
“You must continue to dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in your various fields of science, technology, sports, and the art and creative sector,” Tinubu urged young Nigerians, promising continued policy support and funding.
Beyond education, the administration launched Credicorp, which has granted 153,000 Nigerians N30 billion in affordable loans for vehicles, solar energy, home upgrades, and digital devices. YouthCred, promised last June, now supports tens of thousands of NYSC members with consumer credit for resettlement.
The president also announced that the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) programme, driven by the Bank of Industry in collaboration with the African Development Bank, French Development Agency, and Islamic Development Bank, is “at the cusp of implementation” to support young technology and creative sector entrepreneurs.
