‘Why PDP Is Failing’ — Wike Blames Party Crisis on Betrayal, Broken Agreements
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of betrayal, dishonesty, and breaching internal agreements — which, he says, are tearing the opposition party apart.
In a post published on his X account on May 25, Wike said since the 2023 elections, the PDP has been “swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another,” largely because of a “virus of dishonesty and treachery” among top stakeholders.
“Makinde Is the Architect of Our Problems” – Wike
Wike disclosed that during a recent meeting of the G5 governors in Lagos, he confronted Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, blaming him for many of the PDP’s internal crises.
“I made it clear… that he was the architect of our problems,” Wike stated, accusing Makinde of breaking agreements reached within the group. He said the meeting ended with a resolution to move forward and “bury the hatchet.”
Tensions Flare at Abuja Meeting with PDP Leaders
An expanded follow-up meeting at Senator Bukola Saraki’s guest house involved other PDP heavyweights, including Governors Bala Mohammed and Umaru Fintiri. Wike said tempers flared when he accused Bala Mohammed of “serially reneging on agreements under the guise of being Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.”
The group eventually agreed on four resolutions, including affirming Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary and withdrawing legal actions related to Rivers State.
“Agreements Violated Before Reconciliation Even Began”
Wike expressed disappointment that even before the Saraki-led reconciliation committee began work, some PDP leaders had started undermining the agreements.
He accused Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah of trying to impose a new secretary on the party.
“Seyi Makinde had connived with Peter Mba… to recommend that if Ude Okoye was not adopted as Secretary, they would pull out of the PDP,” Wike alleged.
INEC Rejects PDP Congress Over “Improper Signature”
Wike cited a failed North-Central PDP congress in Jos as further proof of internal sabotage. According to him, INEC refused to attend because the invitation was signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of the recognized National Secretary, Senator Anyanwu.
“This is undeniably distasteful, provocative and annoying, to say the least,” Wike said.

Wike: I’m Done With PDP Agreements
Declaring that his loyalty to the party has been taken for granted, Wike said, “I have worked tirelessly for the survival of this party with all my strength… yet I have not made any personal demands on any of them.”
He concluded with a firm warning: “I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”
