Why Nigeria’s story will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth II – By Muhammadu Buhari
My family and I, and the more than 200 million Nigerians, have learned with immense sadness of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, and the end of her unique and wonderful 70-year reign. She was the only British Sovereign known to 90
percent of our population.
Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom, and the entire Commonwealth, as we join the entire world in mourning this loss.
The story of modern Nigeria will never be complete without a chapter on Queen Elizabeth II, a towering global personality and an outstanding leader. She dedicated her life to making her nation, the Commonwealth and the entire world a better place.
On behalf of the people and Government of Nigeria, I congratulate Liz Truss on her assumption of office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The shared ties between Nigeria and Britain remain strong and mutually beneficial, we will work with the new PM to deepen the relationship.
Let me also appreciate the warmth and friendliness of the immediate past Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. I wish him the best in future endeavours.
This was contained in a statement made by President Buhari over the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Before her death, Queen Elizabeth was Britain’s longest reigning monarch who oversaw the independence of many nations from colonial rule.
