Why I Dumped PDP for APC – Ned Nwoko
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal challenges in his former party and a desire to serve his constituents more effectively.
Ned announced his defection on the floor of the Senate during yesterday’s plenary session. The Delta Senator, in a press statement shortly after the defection, said the decision followed “deep reflection and wide consultations with key stakeholders, political associates, and, most importantly, my constituents in Delta North Senatorial District.”
“For years, I have remained committed to the ideals of good governance, effective representation, and the well-being of my people. However, it became increasingly clear that remaining in my former party would not allow me to fulfill the promises I made to my constituents,” Nwoko said.
The senator expressed dissatisfaction with the state of affairs within the PDP, particularly in Delta State, describing it as a major obstacle to delivering meaningful development.
“The challenges within the party, particularly in Delta State, have hindered progress, making it difficult to work effectively for the development of my people,” he stated.

Aligning with APC for Growth and Progress
Explaining why he chose to join the APC, Nwoko said he believes the party provides a better platform for national development and people-centered policies.
“Crossing over to the APC is a strategic step towards aligning with a platform that prioritizes national interest, economic growth, and people-centered policies,” he said.
He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the APC has “demonstrated a clear vision for Nigeria’s development,” adding that he is “excited to be part of this movement for positive change.”
Acknowledging APC Leadership and Supporters
Nwoko expressed gratitude to key figures in the APC for facilitating his transition. “I want to sincerely appreciate the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for his leadership and warm reception into the party,” he said.
He also acknowledged Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his encouragement during the process.
“His leadership in the Senate has continued to foster unity and progress, and I look forward to working closely with him and my colleagues to advance policies that will benefit the Nigerian people,” he stated.
To his supporters in Delta North, Nwoko assured them that his defection would not affect his commitment to their welfare.
“To my supporters, constituents, and well-wishers, I am deeply grateful for your unwavering trust and belief in me. As I transition into this new phase, my commitment to the people of Delta North remains steadfast,” he said.
Reaffirming his dedication to regional and national development, he declared, “Together, we will build a stronger Delta and a greater Nigeria. The journey continues!”
Nwoko ended his statement with the APC’s slogans, declaring, “APC! PROGRESS! APC! RENEWED HOPE! APC! A STRONGER DELTA!”
His defection comes at a time of increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections. In December, five Labour Party (LP) lawmakers in Nigeria’s House of Representatives defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
