We are fully ready for LG polls- Kogi Electoral commission insists
In preparation for the LG polls in Kogi state on 19 October 2024, the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, (KOSIEC) has expressed readiness for the exercise.
Mamman Nda Eri, chairman of the commission was positive on conducting the election when he received the Kogi State Executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in his office in Lokoja.
He said, “All that is needed for a successful exercise has been provided and distributions of non-sensitive materials would commence soon.
“I am appealing for the support and cooperation of the NUJ in the state in the coverage of the council polls. Journalists should verify results from the Commission before publication”.
When quizzed on the issue of security, he assured that adequate measures have been taken to ensure the safety of staff, journalists, observers and all relevant stakeholders in the election.
He commended the leadership of the Kogi State Council of the NUJ and the members for their forthrightness in discharging their constitutional mandate.
Eri further assured that the poll will be free and fair, he therefore urged political parties to put their minds to rest as it the commission will ensure an equal ‘playing field’.
In his statement, he said the commission’s mandate is to ensure that the wishes of the people reflect in the outcome of the exercise without political affiliation interference.
According to Dailypost, the Kogi State NUJ chairman, Alhaji Ademu Seidu Haruna, the visit was to create a synergy with the Commission ahead of the election.
The NUJ chairman equally said that members of the union are ready to perform their constitutional mandate and support the Commission ahead of the polls
